Historical
Background of the Trojan Horse
Paris,
son of the Trojan king Prium, stole Helen from her husband
Menelaus, the king of Sparta, and took her to the walled city
of Troy. The Greek army, under the leadership of Agamemnon,
Achilles, and Odysseus, tried in vain to revenge this affront
by attacking Troy. After battling for ten years Odysseus had
a giant horse built, and hid 22 of the finest Greek warriors
inside its belly. This Trojan Horse was left at the gates
of Troy as a cunning peace offering. The unsuspecting Trojans
pulled the horse inside their city gates, and while they were
celebrating their supposed victory the Greek warriors emerged
from the Horse and conquered the Trojans.
